In The Children’s Story by James Clavell, the children are in a classroom where the teacher is taken away and replaced with another teacher. The “New Teacher” then changes the thoughts and views of the children and as we find out later in the story the teacher has done this in a matter of twenty minutes. In this short amount of time the teacher was able to change the students’ views on the pledge of allegiance and had each student rip up the flag and each take a piece to symbolize their “pledge.” The teacher was also able to have the students ponder the idea of wearing a uniform, question their parents’ thoughts, and prayer to a “leader,” not God. After questioning the New Teacher the students eventually give in and agree with everything that was explained to them, ultimately brainwashing the students to go against their normal views.
